I am planning a 3 days running. Day 1 from Empoli to San Gimiganno. Day 2 from San Gimignano to Siena. Day 3 from Siena to Montalcino. I am happy to receive advice on the best routes for this stay. regards Klaus from Norway
You mean you want to RUN between these places? Since you are pretty much connecting places that are also along the Via Francigena, that would be my suggestion: follow the tracks/course set for pilgrims along the route, in particular because there is a network that puts together lists of lodging and places to eat along the way. That should really help simplify your planning especially to keep OFF roads full of cars as well as better plan your distances. Take a look at this page where all of the "stages" of the pilgrimage route are laid out: https://www.discovertuscany.com/iti...ia-francigena/via-francigena-15-sections.html
This basically shows San Miniato as your departure point toward San Gimignano instead of Empoli. San Miniato is just a bit further west of Empoli but pretty much parallel and distance to SG is the same. On the route, the distance is divided into two days, but of course it is planned for walking. The same goes for the other stages.
Make sure to also read the intro page on the Via Francigena: https://www.discovertuscany.com/iti...ia-francigena/an-intro-to-via-francigena.html and then head on to the official site: https://www.viefrancigene.org/en/the-path/
