Chianti in Early January

Hi,

My boyfriend and I am planning to visit Chianti and the wine yard in early January.
We will probably rent a car.

Is early January a good time to visit the place?
Are the wine yards still open?
Is the plants in the countryside starting to dry already at that time? (because we love countryside view)

Your insights are greatly appreciated :)

Early January is winter time so the vineyards are definitely resting and there won't be leaves. The countryside still has a charming appeal in winter and the countryside is different, but still beautiful. Wineries will be open, although with reduced hours as far as visits and tastings go.

If you want to stay in Chianti, I recommend spending at least 3 days in the area so you get some time to drive around and visit the various hilltop towns, including Greve, Castellina, Panzano, San Donato in Poggio, Radda, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni and Siena!
