We will be spending 5 days in San Gimignano in May 2024 can anyone recommend or know of day trip/tours that start in the village? Wine tours, coach trips etc sightseeing we are interested in anything like that, cheers John Freeman

Ciao John and welcome to our forum!

I am assuming you will still have a car while in San Gimignano, is that correct? Here you can find a few tours, including a cooking class: https://tours-discovertuscany.partner.viator.com/San-Gimignano/d29096-ttd Some of these start in town, others just outside town at a local farmhouse/winery just a few minutes away... so you'll need a car to get there first to start the tour.

The local tourism office for the town also lists some tour guides that live in town, so that is another option: https://www.sangimignano.com/it/shopping/servizi-turistici/ -- contact them directly and ask for some same tours and relative costs :)

Let us know if you have any other questions!

I forgot to add that the tourism office in town - here's their info - https://www.sangimignano.com/it/contatti/
will also book tours for you, so you could wait until you are in town and see what is available for the following day or days and book then.

Many thanks for that; we will not have a car as travelling from Florence in a taxi after a month away from home so SG is a restful stay but we would like to see a bit of Tuscany so will look at your suggestions.

Look into a private driver to get to SG as opposed to taxi as it could get more expensive than the driver.... or even consider getting there by bus if you feel adventurous (it isn't difficult but does require one bus transfer in Poggibonsi). Here's more info: https://www.discovertuscany.com/san-gimignano/how-to-reach-san-gimignano.html

I imagine if you were to contact the private guides in SG they can offer more tips or special tours that will include transportation to local wineries and to nearby towns for exploring the area. This one tour does start from the main gate of SG and includes transportation so should be doable and takes you to Castellina in Chianti and to a winery: https://tours-discovertuscany.partn...astle-Tour-from-San-Gimignano/d29096-5919P184.
