Recommendation of place to stay

Family of 4 (two girls, 8,11, mom and dad) going to Italy in June. We will have a car. Interested in Cinque Terre, Florence, Siena. I was thinking of staying around Lucca or Forte di Marme. Prefer apartments, but will consider hotels. Only have 4 days in Tuscany, but trying to convince my wife to extend it a week or more.

A week in June would be spectacular: the weather is usually warm and there is lots of daylight hours. Most apartments really look for a week long stay - though there are some who will accept less.

Residence Santa Maria is located in a fairly central area for the day trips you are talking about and it is kid friendly.
