Transport from Florence Airport to Train Station

My husband and I will be visiting Florence for the first time in July 2014. Can someone please advice the best way to get from the Airport to the Train Station and then onwards to out hotel? We are on a budget so the cheapest mode of transport etc. I think a taxi would be rather expensive. Thank you :)

There is a very easy and cheap way to commute from Florence Airport (FIRENZE PERETOLA) and Florence downtown. The local public bus transportation company (ATAF) offers regular shuttle connections from Florence airport to Florence central railway station (FIRENZE SANTA MARIA NOVELLA).
The shuttle connection is called " VOLA IN BUS" and you can find the complete info at the following LINK

In the PDF file you can find useful details about the bus stop location, schedule, costs and useful phone numbers. You can purchase the tickets directly at the airport upon arrival.

The public bus shuttle service is only 4.50 euros per person (one way). This is really the cheapest way to get into downtown Florence! (updated cost euro 6,00 p.p.)

Everything as Elena has written is correct, except that the fare of the Volainbus has gone up.
It is 6 euro one way, 10 euro round trip.

So much information, we who are new to Italy, specifically Tuscany are so thankful to everyone who posts, the specialists and those who have just experienced the area.
