My best friend and I decided to be spontaneous and head to Tuscany next month to celebrate her 50th birthday! We want to stay on the west side of Florence for the first 3 nights, a little further south, the next three nights and in Rome the last night. We are planning to rent a car - although, would you suggest this and is there any things I need to be aware of before we do - and want to see as much as we can while having time to enjoy all the things! We would like to find reasonable lodging - maybe on a vineyard or farm. I am nervous about airbnb! Would love any suggestions you can share!

What a wonderful trip! I am sure you will enjoy every single moment of your week.
A car rental is pretty important to explore areas outside of the towns and a stay at a vineyard would definitely make a great base. Take a look at the places recommended on here: https://www.discovertuscany.com/tuscany-accommodation/vineyards/ and here: https://www.tuscanyaccommodation.com/wine-tastings/ We link to the property's website whenever possible so you book direct, we like to present the owners so you know who you're staying with. If you have any questions about any, just ask! We know many of them.
Area between Florence and Siena would be ideal because it is very central and would make moving around easier. Take a look and post any other questions you might have.

How exciting to be celebrating a 50th birthday in Tuscany! Renting a car can be a great idea for flexibility, especially in the countryside. Just be aware of ZTL (limited traffic zones) in cities like Florence and Rome, which can result in fines if you accidentally drive through them. Also, parking can be tricky in city centers, so plan for parking outside and walking in.

For accommodations, you might consider staying at an agriturismo (farm stay) instead of Airbnb if you're nervous. Many offer beautiful vineyard settings with authentic experiences. Enjoy your trip!
