Lourdes The Tuscan Expert ;-) Staff member Oct 7, 2014 #3 For anyone who wants the adventure of doing both in one day without a tour - you could use the bus, but plan carefully to make the times match up and not be stranded anywhere for too long. You can read how to get to SG with a bus here: http://www.discovertuscany.com/san-gimignano/how-to-reach-san-gimignano.html (there are links to the bus schedules) and those same buses can take you on to Siena passing through Poggibonsi. I'd recommend at that point to plan either a night in Siena or taking a late bus back to Florence. You can see the timetable here: http://www.discovertuscany.com/attachments/SITA_Firenze-Siena.pdf and know they are also on the other timetable as bus 131R (rapido 75 min) or 131O (ordinario 95min).
