How to reach San Quirico d’Orcia with public transport?

Hi, I’m planning to visit Tuscany and stay at San Quirico d’Orcia for a night. I don't have a driving license, so I am dependant on public transportation. I see I can reach till Buonconvento from Florence with a train. San Quirico d’Orcia is 20 mins drive from Buonconvento.

1. Could it be possible to get a bus from Buonconvento to San Quirico d’Orcia?
2. Could it be possible to get taxi from Buonconvento to San Quirico d’Orcia?
3. What is the best way to reach San Quirico d’Orcia with a public transportation?

Would appreciate any recommendations or insights. Thanks in advance! 😊

Regards,
Poojitha

Ciao! You can most definitely reach San Quirico with a bus from Buonconvento and get to Buonconvento with the train.
You will just have to plan well in order to not miss any of the train and bus schedules because at some times of the day there are less connections.

Here's what Google Maps recommends as far as bus schedules from Buonconvento to San Quirico - plug in your time of the day and see what works best for you:

thank you. Could it be possible to hire taxi just in case if I miss the bus.

Taxi service outside of the main towns is quite difficult because there isn't a fleet for the small towns. Transfers can be arranged with private drivers, what are called "rental with driver" or essentially a chauffeur, and called "NCC" in Italian.

Services like Uber drivers don't exist here but essentially the NCC drivers are the only ones that can provide that service (Italian bureaucracy makes it impossible for anyone to just go out and drive people around without a permit, insurance, etc). The main problem is that NCC drivers are difficult to arrange last minute, they like to plan ahead of time. So if you miss the bus, you will be at the mercy of local NCCs who are available -you might get lucky though! We had a walk planned from San Quirico to Pienza and back and it started pouring, the last bus had passed and as we were asking at a local bar (coffee shop) for assistance, a lady offered to drive us if we just waited a half hour for her shift to end! So you never know, just in case, this is the contact for a local tour/NCC driver in Buonconvento: https://www.toursoftuscany.it/ You could contact them ahead of time and find out if they do have more than a driver available, in case you were to need them.

thank you so much for sharing all these information.

You're very welcome, I am sure you will enjoy your time in Tuscany and in San Quirico - hope you have enough time to walk around the town so you can see and photograph some of the landscapes you see here: https://www.tuscanypictures.com/valdorcia/
The Cappella di Vitaleta is very scenic, you can see it from the road that joins San Quirico to Pienza, and the cluster of cypresses is seen on the road between Buonconvento to San Quirico, on your right (the chapel is on our homepage, and also here: https://www.tuscanypictures.com/valdorcia/church-valdorcia.jpg while the cypresses are these: https://www.tuscanypictures.com/valdorcia/cypresses_valdorcia.jpg )

Hi, I will take bus from Buonconvento to San Quirico. I see the bus is starting from Siena. Will it be very crowded & no place to sit? Could I buy the bus ticket in the bus from the driver?

I doubt the bus will be crowded, buses are used mostly by locals - and you can buy tickets from the driver, but in Buonconvento, there should be cafes/bars where you can buy the ticket ahead of time (it will cost more on the bus) and you can buy the ticket to return as well, so that you already have it in hand and not have to go look where to buy it when you plan to return. The ticket is for the distance, not for the day of, you need to "stamp" it when you get on the bus to validate it.
