Leather Jacket bought in Florence

Buongiorno,

I hope that someone local can help. Many years ago I went on vacation to Florence and purchase a leather jacket for myself and my mother. I still have mine but sadly
someone stole hers. I would like to replace it with a new one.

I know that we were in the San Lorenzo Market and we ended up in a very small shop. I wonder if this was Giorgio 1966 Leather Store (Via del Canto dei Nelli 34, Florence)
The tag on the back of the jacket only says [Vera Pelle / Lavorazione Artigian / Made in Italy]
There is a tag on the side, inside of the jacket which looks like care instructions for the jacket, on the bottom of the tag it says
[a normal della legge n.883 del 26-11-73]

Is Giorgio 1966 Leather Store the only leather shop with a place in San Lorenzo Market? I remember they took our measurements but we were lucky enough to pick
up the jackets in a few days. They were willing to ship the jackets to the US, I was hoping to find out if they were the shop we bought from.

Thank you!

So sorry to hear your mom's jacket was stolen, it definitely would be nice to have a replacement. You're saying it was made to measure, though, since you say you picked it up a few days later from an actual shop. I am not sure it will be easy therefore to replace it long distance, maybe a return trip to Florence is merited.

If that is not possible in the near future, I suppose they might be willing to work off measurements. There are many leather shops around the San Lorenzo and many of them then rent the cart space in front of their shop or near it so that they can get the foot traffic that passes by the outdoor market so they might be hidden.
Having said that, there are many leather shops but some deal with purses, wallets, belts, not necessarily jackets. The majority though will NOT SHIP. They don't want to deal with collecting $ and the fear of non-payment so prefer to work locally, in person. You can see that with Jimmy leather goods in San Lorenzo - they present their products but then tell you to visit the shop. Giorgio 1966 actually has no website.

That's why on our article we looked at both local places as well as those that work with a lot of international clients. We recommend Benheart and Piero Tucci on our article on this page and because they do ship abroad. Another one that works with international clients is Davide Cerasi which is near the Ponte Vecchio. I know all of these three will also custom order, if you see a style you want but in a different color, for instance.

So if you and your mom got a custom fit when you were here, the only way to get something to replace it might be to come back and do it again.
Hope you find a solution you are happy with!!
