Hi folks -
Love the content of your website!

Unfortunately, I'm finding it super difficult to find out about live opera performance in Florence ... we'll be visiting in April and available to attend a performance on any of these three days ... April 19-21. Can you send me a link where I could find out about performances and how to buy tickets? Thanks in advance

I am sorry to report there doesn't seem to be anything lyrical going on on those 3 days.
The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, which is the first stop for Opera in Florence - https://www.maggiofiorentino.com - doesn't have anything.
You miss Carmen by a few days it seems: https://www.maggiofiorentino.com/event_season/stagione-lirica-2022-2023

Next option is to start looking at the theaters that put shows on, but they include plays, musicals, operas and concerts so you need to look at the programs and see what's on.

Teatro Verdi - https://www.teatroverdifirenze.it/programma/
There is music on those days.

Compagnia d'Opera Italiana Firenze - https://opera-company-florence.mystrikingly.com/ (in English)
On the 21st they have "The Magic Flute" but the venue is not central, it is at the Teatro Aurora in Scandicci (you can get there by bus)

Tuscany Hall - https://www.tuscanyhall.it/eventi/
I would recommend the Bandabardò concert, if you want to try something very different from opera, considering it is folk rock in Italian ;-)

These are some options for you to consider, let me know if you need more info for planning your stay.

Wonderful. Thanks for the details and the quick response, Lourdes!

Hi Lourdes

I joined the forum today but my message won’t go through to you directly.

My son (19 years) and I are planning our first trip to Tuscany in May. We will be flying into Pisa on 13th May (evening) for 7 nights. We will not be driving so need to be near good public transport links. Where would you recommend we base ourselves during our stay?

Ciao Rani, welcome to our forum!

I would suggest you plan out what you want to do during that week and based on that decide where would be best. A town with train and bus connections would be ideal, so I would suggest Florence, Pisa, Lucca and Siena as your main choices. Florence is easiest to get to, and as capital of the region, would likely be the best idea as many guided tours also start here. Siena is also a good option, although it takes a bit more work to get there initially. Take a look at more detailed suggestions at:

Where to stay without a car: https://www.discovertuscany.com/tuscany-accommodation/where-to-stay-without-a-car.html
and getting to Siena without a car: https://www.discovertuscany.com/siena/tourist-info/getting-to-siena-without-a-car.html (there is info to get there from Pisa, although I have not checked lately whether all the train/bus connections are up to date).

Hi Lourdes

Thank you for your reply. Could you recommend any apartments/hotels to stay in Florence?

Is there a local taxi company that I can arrange our airport transfer from Pisa?

Rani

Ciao Rani,
For hotels/apartments in Florence, take a look at: https://www.florenceaccommodation.com/ We have reviewed lots of places and list them there.

As for getting to Florence from Pisa, the easiest is to take the bus from right outside the arrival terminal. The Caronna bus sells tickets there so you can just wait till you get to Pisa and buy tickets there, the bus takes you into the center of Florence to the SMN train station area. Choose a place to stay at that is in the center and you can actually walk there from the station, if it isn't too far! Florence center is small and very walkable!
