Can anyone tell us about parking in both of these cities? We're roaming about in September but want to make sure we'll be able to understand the parking situation.

San Gimignano has quite a few parking lots - they are all numbered and easy to find. San Gimignano fills up fast, so the best advice is to get there EARLY. Parking lot number 1 and 2 are close to the city and give you a lovely view of the walls - but they fill up fast!

The furthest away has a shuttle bus service, so even if you get there late, you can still easily make use of these convenient services. I was just there a few weeks ago and I arrived after 12 noon....and it was packed! Wound up parking far away, but we decided to walk in, behind the Coop supermarket (which by the way is where you can pick up cool water, fruit and use the bathroom!) there are some steps which is a tiny bit of a shortcut.
