Snorkeling in september (Follonica / San Vincenzo / Isola d'Elba)

We are traveling to Tuscany in september where we will reside one week in Follonica and one week in San Vincenzo, along the coast. Beside bike riding, we would like to also do some snorkeling along the beach as we will not have a car or a boat, only our bikes.

First, what is the ocean's water temperature in mid-september?

Should we consider bringing our 3 MM wetsuit, along with our snorkeling gear?

Any good snorkeling spots at a walking distance of Follonica's beach (Hotel Ausonia)?

Any good snorkeling spots at a walking distance of San Vincenzo's beach (Garden Toscana Resort)?

Any good snorkeling spots on the eastern side of Isola d'Elba at a walking distance from the ports of Portoferraio, Cavo or Rio Marina?

Otherwise, any good snorkeling spots accessible by bus from one of those ports?

Finally, are there any snorkeling cruise still operating on the island in september?

Any coastal grottos easily accessible from land close to those three spots?
