Wine tasting in Chianti help

New member

Myself and my partner will be cycling through the Chianti region at the start of July for a few days, and wanted some advice on which wineries to visit in the area!
We are either: cycling from Siena up towards Greve OR cycling from Greve in Chianti down towards Siena. We would like to stop by the hill towns of Gaiole, Castellina and San Gimignano if possible and sample some wineries along these routes.
However, we are on a tight budget, so are there any good wineries that we might come across which offer FREE wine tastings or very reasonably priced tastings/tours?
Any advice or comments are very much appreciated!

Wine tasting in Chianti and San Gimignano

Ciao Vi and welcome!
Cycling through the winding roads and hidden paths of Chianti is amazing!
I'm sure you'll have a great time:)
All the area from Siena down to Chianti is so full of wineries and wine cellars, you'll have plenty choices to choose from :)

Close to Greve in Chianti, you may go for Montefioralle, a family-run winery offering tastings:

Amongst the most famous wineries in Chianti I suggest the Castello di Vicchiomaggio, a mighty castle surrounded by vineyards, and the famous Castello di Verrazzano, both again near Greve. They produce a high quality Chianti wine, and offer wine tastings.

If you wish, another possibility would be to make a guided wine tour. I suggest this one, specifically on Chianti and San Gimignano areas:

For further suggestions and details you might have a look at this useful forum thread:

And here you can find some additional information about Chianti wine tasting:

Of course, you will find actually countless wine cellars along the route, so you can just stop and try! Most wine tastings are free to just a few euros, others might include tastings of Tuscan specialties such as cold cuts, beans, bruschetta and as such might cost more but if you take a look at the websites, they'll generally give you an idea if there is a cost.

Do not hesitate to post again for any other question:)

Have a great Tuscan vacation!
